I need help logging into my netgear router!?

My husband and I purchased a netgear router, which no longer is covered by warranty (so calling the tech support is out, since they charge...) and I need to log into it to change some settings around. I've tried to reset it to the factory settings by holding the reset button in for 10 seconds, and then again for 30 seconds. However, it didn't work. the generic un/pw comes up as incorrect and I've tried retyping it several different ways. Is there a way to wipe out whatever changes my husband did to it so I can access it? He doesn't remember if he had changed the settings or not, and he's tried every combo he could think of, and still nothing.
